Issues with Course Navigation with Tabs on Master Slide

Apr 18, 2016

I am having issues with course navigation and need some help. Specifically, here are the issues:

· There are 8 Navigation tabs on the Slide Master with 3 states, Normal, Hover, and Selected. I would like these tabs to show the Selected state when the user clicks on the tab and stay on the Selected state while in that section.

· I would also like to add a Completed state and have that show once the user completes that section.

I can’t seem to figure this out using triggers and variables. Could it possibly have to do with the fact that these Navigation tabs are on the Master Slide?

This is my final thesis project (Capstone) for a graduate degree in Instructional Design. I have attached the Storyline file.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Hi Sandy,

I won't go indepth in regards to fixing your file, since it's for your thesis and all - but will offer you some thoughts. :-)

First, I noticed you have a number of master slides and layouts - each of those and the buttons you've assigned will be treated indepedently. So if the "Harbormaster role" state was changed on a slide that referenced layout MME Nav 1 - the same change would not carry through when a slide was referencing layout "opening animated slide".

Second, you'll want to take a look at your trigger order and the built in definitions of the state and how they'll behave. The triggers will fire top to bottom, so if you're jumping to a slide before another change listed the change may not have time to take place. Also for the built in state definitions, adding triggers to show the same behavior can cause inconsistent results.

Lastly, you may want to review this thread about "Preserving the button states from slide to slide" specifically taking a look at your slide layer properties.

Best of luck with the course and your thesis!
