Issues with resolution and publishing - Storyline 1

Feb 19, 2019

Hi there

I am having some issues with the display of Articulate Storyline 1 on my laptop. The resolution does not seem to optimise; I can zoom on the slide content, but the menu content and timeline are unreadable they are so small. I have tried updates / restarts, uninstalling and reinstalling, using a bigger screen, and nothing has worked. It has been tried on two of the same model laptop and there are no issues with the display, and I have no issues with any other program. See attached image.

I also cannot publish a Scorm file (tried 1.2, 2004 and API, all have the same problem). The publisher gets a few slides in and crashes. Again, restarting, saving new versions, reinstalling etc. have made no difference, and this issue has not been experienced by others within my organisation with the same laptop.

Please can you offer help / advice? I have a large project to review next week which will be very challenging with this resolution issue.

Many thanks

Hi there, Sophie.  Thanks for the screenshot.  It looks like you're using a high-resolution display.

You may find that user interface elements in older versions of Storyline are small and difficult to read on high-resolution monitors—generally, monitors that display more than 2,000 pixels in width. You may need to reduce your screen resolution while working in Storyline.  If you have Windows 10, you can quickly get to your Display settings by right-clicking on your desktop and choosing Display settings.

You've done some good troubleshooting steps for the publishing issue, as well.  Let me know the following:

  • Have you been saving your project to your local C: drive?
  • When you publish, is the directory also going to your local C: drive?
  • Can you preview the entire project without crashing?

You can try importing these slides into a new project to see if the new version will publish successfully, as well.  Keep me posted!

Hi Crystal

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I have tried all of the steps you suggested, but unfortunately nothing is working. Adjusting my screen resolution has no impact on my Storyline display (but it does on all other programs). I imported to a new file on my C: drive, and tried publishing to C: drive and it still fails after a few seconds. I cannot do a full preview either, the slides will not load (the loading progress won't go beyond the first couple of slides). I have tried this on two different files and have the exact same issue.

Do you have any other suggestions please?

Many thanks

Sophie
