Issues with video playing when quiz answer selected

Jul 27, 2018

Hi All,

I'm trying to create a storyline with a video that has quiz questions appearing at different times throughout the video.  At the moment I've got the questions appearing in a lightbox, however I have found with only the first question the video will start to play as soon as the user clicks within the question slide.  All other question slides that appear the video will stay paused.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Adrian

Hi, Adrian. Sorry you're running into this behavior–I'm happy to help you sort this out!

I published your project to Web with Storyline 360–here's the HTML5 output and here's the Flash one. I was able to recreate the video's audio playing in the background on the first question with only the HTML5 output; the Flash one works as expected. Really strange!

I've created a case with our Support Engineers so we can dig deeper. You should hear back from the team soon, and I'll follow along as well!

Hi, Adrian–and those following along!

Circling back here to note that we've now got in the HTML5 output, the video on the base layer resumes playing when clicking anywhere on the slide while a lightbox is open logged as a possible bug. The current workarounds are:

  • Use the Flash output, if possible.
  • Use standard slides instead of a lightbox.
  • Add the Click Interaction before opening the lightbox.

..fingers crossed any of these options work for you in the meantime while our team digs deeper.

Appreciate you letting us know about this oddity! You're in the right place, and we’ll post all updates here once we have them!

Hi Adrian,

Good news! We fixed the issue you reported where the video on the base layer resumes playing when clicking anywhere on the slide while a lightbox was opened.

Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes. Here's how.

If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
