JavaScript course date

I am trying to build a "course" that prints off a certificate of completion. That part I can do. The part I am having trouble with is that not everyone will need the certificate so I would like it to be optional "course" that is separate from the main course (that part I can do too). I am trying to figure out a way to pull the date the course was completed from the LMS, not the date the certificate was created (the learner may not need to print the certificate until a couple of years after the course).
Does anyone know if this can be done and how?

More than a year later .... Did you figure this out? I'm looking at doing a similar thing and found some ideas in this post, but haven't tested it. It makes me think my extra "course" will have to be integrated into the first one so it can pull its own date. I could set up a way for the last bit to be visible or not based on user or system criteria.
I'm interested to hear what you've tried.
Interesting issue. Sometimes when I need to copy extra information to LMS, I use function writeComments. So I recomend send date to LMS using writeComments when user completes course. Its important to send this information only one time - then you will be sure that your date is a date of first "complete"
I ended up using the LMS set up a print certificate function. I worked with them to set up the certificate to look a certain way and then it was launched separately pulling the date of completion from the LMS.
I have done this in the past by running the javascript to get the date when they complete and then saving that as a separate storyline variable that can go on a certificate any time in the future.

All good ideas - thank you!
Glad that you were able to get some assistance here Debbie :)
