JAWS reading issue

Oct 01, 2015

I've been given a course with 250 pages that I've been asked to make accessible for screen readers. I'm having an issue with the way JAWS is reading the text on the pages.

If there were three different text blocks on a page. Normally JAWS would only read the text block selected as you tab through the page. In this case when you tab to the first text block in the tabbing order, JAWS reads all three text blocks as one. When you tab to the second JAWS again reads all three text blocks a one. It does the same with the third text block.

I can fix the problem if I copy and paste the content from the current text blocks to new text blocks but that's a lot of work. Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm using JAWS 16 with IE 11.

Hi, Terry -- Sorry to hear of your difficulties here, but I wanted to ask a few general questions to rule out the causes of some common issues.

Can you please make sure you are working locally as described here? It may also be helpful to try importing the file into a new file. If you are still having issues, you might want to try to repair Storyline.

Please let me know if you find any improvement, and if issues persist, we will see what more we can do to assist.
