Clicking OK when a quiz timer expires should end the quiz immediately and take learners directly to the result slide. In some cases, however, you may find that learners are able to complete the quiz after the timer has expired.
This issue was corrected in Update 6 for Articulate Storyline. To take advantage of the new features and fixes, download and install the latest version from the link in your product confirmation email or get it here, then republish your course.
I did actually manage to make a custom timer using disappearing objects off the side on the master slide. It works nicely and allows for more flexibility in how you display the time.
