Quiz timer

Apr 08, 2014

It seems the quiz timer is still allowing learners to complete the quiz, and obtain a success result even if the timer has expired.  Apparently it is a known bug that will be fixed in the next version, but I don't know how old that information is...

Is there a variable that is set when the timer expires that i can then use to display a different result layer and adjust the score?

Is there a way to customize the feedback dialog for the timer expiry?

Hi Guy,

This issue is one our team is aware of, and I don't have an update to share in regards to a timeframe, but I'll include this thread as a part of the QA report so that when there is additional information to share I'll be able to update you here.

Unfortunately there is a not a accessible variable which you could use to set the score, but you may want to look at setting up a custom timer as then you could control the pause of the quiz and the score as you'd like.

I see that this post is two years old, however, I hope the wheels are still in motion to look into it unless it has been fixed in version 2.

I'm using SL1 and I encountered a rare event when the quiz timer expires on the last question answered correctly.

In my quiz, the passing score is 100%, the Review Quiz option is not checked, the user can retry, and the quiz timer is set for two minutes.

After answering all questions correctly, I clicked the Submit button on the last question at 1:59. I got both the Correct feedback and the time expired alert.

When I clicked the OK button on the alert, it took me to the start of the quiz but it showed the completed question, and clicking the submit button had no effect. There were no other navigation options. I was stuck.

I have tried to reproduce this, but it only happened once.

Hi William,

If you've only seen this occur once and you're unable to reproduce it following the same steps, it's difficult to say if it's the same issue or what is occurring. I do see some existing issues with the Quiz timer in Storyline 2 - but they don't seem to match your issue.  If you'd like us to take a look at the .story file you're welcome to share the information and the file with us here or send along to our Support team here.

Hi Christie,

FYI, I didn't intend my quiz to be publicly visible, so I have removed it from my previous post.

I just tried it again in SCORM Cloud, and this time, after completing the last question (drag and drop) but without clicking Submit, I just waited for the time to run out.  That's when I was able to reproduce the problem.

As you suggest, I will submit it as a case.

Thanks!

Hi, William -- Thanks for your reply. As your course had been shared here in the thread, I thought I would share the link to your published output via SCORM Cloud for others following along, but in the interests of protecting your privacy, I have now removed that portion from my previous post. My apologies for any confusion!

Awesome, William, and thanks for sharing your case number! It looks like our engineer, Victor, replied to your case last night via email, so if you have yet to receive that message, please check your SPAM folder, as it may have been routed there in error. If you have not received it at all, please let us know that, as well!

Hi, Eugenio.

Thank you for reaching out!

I wasn't able to reproduce what you're experiencing. I created a quiz with a timer in Storyline 360, published it to LMS, and tested it in SCORM Cloud. When the timer expired, I was taken to the Results slide, and the report showed Incomplete as the Success status.

Can you share your .story file through a support case so we can investigate what's happening?

Hi Maria, in other words i have a question bank with 3 multiple choice questions, passing score 60% and a quiz timer of one minute.

If i answer correctly to the first question, select the correct choice on the second question and wait, when time expires it takes me to the report slide, obtanining a success result based on 2 correct answers of 3. What i mean is that when time expires i should obtain a failure result, regardless of number of correct answers chosen until that moment.  Just like Guy said before.

Is there a way to customize the feedback dialog for the timer expiry?

Here's the file .story, thanks!

Hi, Eugenio.

Thank you for clarifying!

The expected behavior, as described here, is that the questions the user already answered before the time ran out will be submitted at the end. If you want the results to show 0% when the time expires, I recommend submitting a feature request

As for customizing the dialog, you can change the text labels in the Player Properties:

I hope this helps!
