Good day. I published my storyline 2 learning object into CD directory. When I click Lauch_story.exe sometime it work on some computer but for some computer it just show a blank windows. May I know what is the reasons and how to get arround with this problem.
Are you launching the .EXE file from your local hard drive? You'll want to make sure that you're not launching it from a network drive, USB drive or any other external source. If you do, it may result in some strange behavior.
Good day. thanks for your reply. I am lauching the .exe file from a Thumb drive or local hard drive. Interestingly it work on some computers and does not work on other computers. Not sure if there is any way to find out what could be the problem.
Hi Mok- are all the computers the same? Are they all using the same version of Windows? You mentioned that you are launching from a thumb drive-- is that what 's being used to bring the course from computer to computer?
The computer are similar configuration using Windows 7 Dell i7 CPU. The same thumb drive. But my computer work fine but another computer just show a blank screen.
One of the laptop can run a previous version of the file. After making some minor changes, the new version cannot run on the same laptop but it run in a few other laptop. For sure there is Flash and Internet Explorer installed on these machines but the result is not consistence. I do not know how to trace the problem. :-(
Hi Mok- Thank you for the additional details here. You mentioned that Internet Explorer and Flash are installed, but just to verify- would you mind checking out the minimum system requirements for viewing Storyline 2 content and confirming if the computer having the issue launching meets them? Thanks!
Thank you. both the computer are the same configuration Dell i7 with 4G RAM. it meet the system requirements for viewing Storyline 2. The computer can see the early version of the same Learning object but now it cannot view it. We just got a empty screen without error.
Did you make changes in the published output - or within the .story file and then republish it for CD? If you're making changes in the published output that's not something that we could offer support for, so I'd have to defer to the community.
If you're republishing the .story file, I'd make sure that you publish it as a brand new version - not overwriting the previous to ensure that there isn't an issue with the other file folder for CD publish. You'll also want to make sure that whoever is playing the published CD output has access to the entire folder and all the contents.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I did not made changes to the published output or within the .story file. It was a new version of the CD files. I deleted the old version all files, folder and publish as a brand new version. Not overwriting the previous.
Yes, whoever is playing the published CD output has access to the entire folder and all the contents because he is the administrator of the laptop. We tried to run from Thumb drive, on hard drive but does not work on certain laptops. It work fine on some other laptops with the same configuration.
Hi Mok- Thanks for the additional details and your continued patience with this. You mentioned that you didn't make edits to the published output or the .story file, what was the reason for republishing it? Just to confirm- when you republished your course, did you open your .story project file and follow these steps? Did you have any system upgrades or changes recently?
You also mentioned trying to view from a hard drive. Are you having the users copy the file to their local drive before launching it? In the tutorial I linked above, you'll also find this tip in the Distribute Your Published Course section for reference: If you use a USB drive or a network drive to deploy your course, learners should copy the files to their local hard drive, then double click the Launch_Story.exe file to play the course. Running it directly from the hard drive could cause playback issues.
Hi Mok- Would you be able to share your .story project file here so I can do some testing? You can add it as an attachment right to a comment in this thread. Thanks!
Thanks Mok, unfortunately I'm not able to see that attachment. If you attached via email or other source, it won't carry over to the forums here. If you pop into this thread, we have an "Add Attachment" feature right in the comment reply window that allows for larger file attachments.
If you still experience it being too large to attach right here in the thread, you can also submit it privately to us using this form. Thanks again!
Sorry you're hitting this snag. I didn't receive a response from Mok in that case, so I'm not positive if it was resolved.
The suggestion I gave was to make sure to move or copy the entire published output from the USB Drive to the user's local computer before double clicking the Launch_Story.exe instead of trying to run it directly from the USB Drive.
Whether the file is located on my C drive or a USB has no effect. It appears to be some sort of a flash issue. Another thread recommended reverting to flash player version 22. I'm going to try that next, but even if that works, it's not a feasible process that I can ask others to implement.
Right now I can only get the course (cd export option) to reliably play from a local server, but what I really needed was the ability of end users to launch it from a thumb drive.
Hey Trevor -- Thanks for letting me know, I'm sorry this is causing so many headaches for you and your users! I'd like to open a case for you to work with our Support Engineers directly in tracking down the culprit here but I need a little more information first:
What version of Storyline are you using?
What's happening when users try to access it? Are they getting an error message?
Is it happening with one course in particular, or any course?
Is it affecting all users, or just some?
Mok- I'm sorry to hear that! Our Support Engineers would love to continue investigating this with you, especially if it's causing so many issues for your users. Let me know and I'll be happy to escalate your case to them immediately.
Also- just a note that replying via email attaches your signature in the comment. You're more than welcome to pop in here and edit that info out, if desired! ☺️

Thanks for your reply.
I only changed the job title of the presenter in a text field. Regenerated the Cd in a new file directory on harddrive.
The procedure of running is the same as you mentioned as I have done the same for testing over hundred times.
Thanks

Thanks Mok! I've replied back in your case. :)
Was a solution found for this issue? I'm having an identical issue.
