Layer showing differently in Interenet Explorer than in Chrom

Jul 23, 2019

I am building a course, finalized the course and published it to our LMS. When we were testing this course it worked perfectly fine in Chrome but in Internet Explorer I had an issue with one of my layers. In this slide I have my base layer and 3 additional layers. For some reason when the last button is visited the layer shows my base layer as well. Again, it works fine in Chrome and we are only having this issue with Internet Explorer. Can anyone give any advise on this situation?

Thanks!

  1. Check the layer GEAR settings and make sure you have "hide objects on the base layer" if that is your intention.
  2. Check the TIMELINE on layer.  Scroll down to where the base layer items are listed.   You can HIDE all the items individually here, so you can hide some and leave some showing through.   I use this alot when I have a music track playing on the base layer, so I hide all the other objects this way so the BG music can keep playing.
  3. Last idea, sometimes it's just easier to drop a background picture on the layer and push it to the back.  Now nothing can show through from anywhere, no matter what.

If none of these work or acceptable, I'd need to take a look at your .story if you can post it.

Hi Jerry,

I have already checked all of those settings and that is why I am confused. Everything is set correctly on the items you suggested and as I mentioned it works perfectly fine when using Chrome as the browser just not when using Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to share the course with anyone outside of my organization for security reasonings but I do appreciated you attempting to help out!

Hi Jacob,

Our Support Team can always look at file privately and are happy to sign an NDA if that helps you share it. If you're still unable to share, I'd look into Phil's suggestion further.

Here's how to check if you're viewing in compatibility mode:

Option 1: Change Your Compatibility View Settings

  • Click the gear icon in Internet Explorer (or click the Tools menu if it's visible), then choose Compatibility View settings.
  • If the website where your course is hosted is listed in Compatibility View, select it and click Remove.
  • Also, if you're using an intranet, such as SharePoint, to host your Rise course, temporarily uncheck Display intranet sites in Compatibility View.
  • Click Close, then launch your course again. If the page is still blank, try the following method.

Option 2: Use the Developer Tools to Switch Document Modes

  • Click the gear icon in Internet Explorer (or click the Tools menu if it's visible), then choose Developer Tools. They'll open across the bottom of your browser.
  • On the right side of the developer bar, you should see an icon that looks like a computer monitor and a smartphone with a number beside it. When you hover over the icon, a tooltip will say Document mode (with a number). Click the icon to display a list of Internet Explorer version numbers.
  • Select version 11, then launch your course again.

It would also help to know which version of Storyline you're using. You can check by going to the "Help" Tab -> "About Articulate Storyline"
