I have several layers that have people popping in and out and pointing at things. Throughout all of this I have a .wav file that narrates the lesson. My audio is only playing when I select the base layer. Is that a bug or a feature? Is is possible I could have checked a box I shouldn't have?
Yes, I checked that. It seems that I can get audio back, by going to a different slide and then clicking on the base layer. But the audio will only play when I select the base layer. So this may be a bug?
Hi Doug, is the audio file a single file that you have inserted into the timeline on the base slide? And the idea is that you want it to play the entire time even when SL is jumping to the layers?
If that is the case, it should work. I created a little example for you but the upload is not working. On the slide and layer properties, try setting the When Revisting option to "Reset to initial state" and on each of the slide layers also make sure that "Pause timeline of base layer" in NOT selected.
Yes, the slides preview fine. It is just with the editor. I have to add the shapes and interactions to the base layer and then copy and paste them to the other layer. So I can't actually see the layer that I am creating the talking bubbles for, but when I past them they are synced with the audio. I think it is a bug. The audio is not listed in the greyed out list of "objects from the base layer." So that may be it as well.... Thank you for the help.
I think this is the way the editor is designed to work. In my experience, you can't play audio out of scope within the editor (like audio on the base layer when a layer is selected). I wish it was a little more responsive, so I tend to just preview the slide to get a view of how a sync will play out.

Hi Steve,
So it is not a bug but a limitation in the current release or a "feature request." I wasn't sure, it seemed like it should work (maybe it is confusing in some scenarios). Good to know so I can adapt to how it works.

Each layer has a properties icon (gear), that includes a check box for pausing the timeline on the base layer when that layer is visible.

Just to be sure, on every layer above the base layer's properties, the "Pause timeline of base layer" box is unchecked.

This works for me.
