Layers Not Showing Reliably

Dec 02, 2013

Hi

I have a page which has a pretty much blank base layer and then 5 layers, each with buttons and text and an image. I switch the layer on conditionally on a variable value.

The problem I am having is that often when I enter the slide, the correct layer shows briefly and then a fraction of a second later it disappears to leave the empty base slide showing. This is not consistent and pressing Next / Prev a few times often corrects it and on occasions, the slide just shows properly first time through.

I am using the HTML5 output as the client does not require Flash. I am fairly new to Storyline and am evaluating it for this project and I like what I see, but just have this one problem which is not consistent and I would be really grateful for any help resolving it.

Thanks for any help you might be able to give me - I have added some supporting info below.

Best regards, Ian

Here is some more info in support of the problem I am having.

The layer is somehow being set display none although the rest of the style looks good:

Pressing Next / Prev a couple of times seems to set it up properly:

The layers are set:

Hi Ian and welcome to Heroes!

You mention using the HTML5 output, but how are you testing that version? You'll want to place the published version within the intended environment to properly test, as testing locally you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

The other item you may want to check is that within each layer, the elements appear on the timeline for the entire length of the timeline or else they may disappear based on how many seconds they are set within the timeline.

Hi

Thanks Ashley - I am testing in both a SCORM development wrapper with a web server locally and also on an LMS - the SCORM manifest is modified to launch the HTML5 component for the LMS version.

I will double check on the timeline, however I am not sure that would lead to the intermittent nature of the problem. I have written a longer post in an email to support, but have not heard back yet - I can paste most of that here if you think it would be helpful either for me or others reading?

Thanks again for the welcome and coming back to me.

Hi Uttam,

Thanks for reaching out here - as mentioned this thread is a bit older, but it is associated with Storyline 1 and not Storyline 2. Also it looks like our team investigated this and determined the error to be a part of Ian's custom script and that is not something that we can assist with - so I don't have any other information to share at this time. I'm not sure if Ian is subscribed to this thread so you may want to message him using the contact me button on his profile to see if he's able to share an update with you.

Hi Uttam - I worked on the same project as Ian, and in the end we hung everything off the Audio track trigger rather than the button click trigger, so basically when a button is clicked, play some audio, then have the layers / navigation changes etc happen on the Audio complete (sound finished) trigger rather than the Button click trigger. - If you don’t actually want audio to play on a button click, use a .5 second peace of silent audio. - I know this sounds odd ! - but the HTML 5 out put seemed to work much better this way.
