Less ugly video player controls?

Is there any way to make the controls show with the embedded video player in SL less ugly? I'm not talking about the modern player controls, I'm talking about the video player controls (see screenshot below).

I mean, c'mon, they look like they're Windows 98 era with the gray gradient bevels and all. 

I completely understand that SL is simply using the browser's built-in video player object to show the controls so this can be blamed on the browser but there are plenty of good-looking video players out there that have a more modern UI so is it possible for SL to show controls that are more in line with the modern player?  [And before someone suggests just using the modern player controls instead, there are some issues with that we have run into so using the video player controls is the only option.]
