Limit Drag&Drop draggable answers per field

Nov 16, 2023

Hi there!

I see that there are other threads about this issue but they're old and unresolved or the solution is not valid for what I am trying to do.

I have 3 targets and 9 options.
I need them to tile and I need to let the possibility to put an answer in a wrong target, so I can't change these things. Problem is if the user tries to put too many items in a field, they overflow under the shape.

What I need is to "deactivate" a drop target if 4 items are dropped on it, and reactivate it if one of those items is moved to another field.

For a better user experience maybe I should also do something like turning the title of a target grey when it's full/deactivated

The Drag and Drop Options have an "Allow only one item in each drop target" option. Unfortunately, you can't increase that limit. And creating multiple one-item targets won't work for your situation, because you can only indicate one correct target for an object.

The simplest solution is to use a separate slide for each draggable item.

Or use a different kind of question.

  • Each drag and drop is basically a multiple-choice question. Because you have 9 items, you'd need 9 questions.
  • Or you could create a multiple-response question in which the user chooses one option of three options per item. Because you're testing on 9 items, I'd recommend using at least 2 slides if you do this. Otherwise, there'll be too much text on the screen.
