Limit the playing of an Audio File during a question

I am creating a language study test for my customer and I need help.  They want to allow the student to play the audio file no more than twice for each question, but I can't seem to figure out how to limit the playing of the audio.  The audio file is linked to a picture on the screen with a "click-to-play" trigger.

I've tried adding a variable that increases by 1 when the button is clicked with a condition that hides/disables the button when the variable == 2, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
