Link to other SL files from triggers

Dec 12, 2017

I have a number of individual screen recordings which will have audio and captions added to them and I want to be able to use them in a full SL course as well as add the individual modules to Rise for a different way of working.  I don't want to have to maintain two different sets of files and so wanted to have all modules as separate files and then call them from a menu slide - is this possible?

Thanks

Diane

Hi Diane,

I'm having a hard time understanding your set up - you mentioned not wanting to maintain two separate files, but having the modules as separate? Are the modules you're thinking of Rise vs. Storyline? Perhaps you could share a bit more about the number of files and what you're looking to set up and that'll help us offer ideas and options!

I have recorded various software scenarios as video and try modes saved as an individual story file for each element of a software programme so that the size is kept small. I then have a story with the welcome, objectives and effectively a menu for people to choose each individual module to complete a full course. All the preamble slides and menu options are really for new starters to complete a full course. I am also developing an FAQ area using Rise and want to link directly to each of the stories so someone can ask “how do I do …….?” and be able to directly access the same recording without having to go through a series of menus. Therefore I only want one software simulation per story and if anything changes, I change that one story instead of having the same story stored in multiple locations and having to amend each one separately. Putting all the recordings in one file means the file will be excessively large and also means I cannot just insert a particular scene from a story in Rise.

Thanks
Diane

Hi Diane,

If you're looking to link each Storyline course into Rise, you could publish them all to Review and pull those in using the Storyline block option. If you want to also link those individual segments into a "master" Storyline course, you'd publish that one last and use the Review Share links inside Storyline, and pull that "master" Storyline course and publish that one to Review.

It's a bit of work, and multiple steps, but hopefully that helps with your file size concerns.
