Loading Audio and sluggish interface
Sep 06, 2012
I put sounds on all my slides at the start of my project. Now I'm going along scene by scene, slide by slide to add the content. When I come to a slide I haven't worked on the sound layer timeline will show a "Loading sound" message instead of the waveform.
That loading message seems to be there for a long time. I just checked two of them and it took about 1 minute 45 seconds to load each sound. (The sounds were 12 and 17 seconds.)
I'm wondering where the sounds are being loaded from? And if that is a normal amount of time for the process to take.
I'm asking also because I'm finding that interface is a little sluggish. There is a long (in user-interface terms) gap between selecting a menu and the action happening. I've restarted my machine to see if that helps.
My story file is about 31 MB, has 6 scenes, and 23 slides. Each slide has a sound object (running from a few seconds in length to about a minute.) There is a 6 minute video in there and a couple of imported swf files. A goodly number of imported png photos, but I'm only about 10 slides into the deck.
I'm wondering if putting the audio in has slowed it down?

Good Afternoon, R.
I would agree that this sounds much more sluggish than what I would expect for a project of this size.
First, I'd like to verify that you are working on a project that is stored on a local, internal hard drive. Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause all sorts of problems like this one.
If you've verified that you are working locally and the problem persists, we'd be happy to take a closer look at this. Please submit a case using the link below so our support team can assist you further, and please do include your .story file:

Thanks!
Yes it is a local, internal hard drive.
The restart seems to be helping a bit with the UI interface. The sound loading is still taking a long time.
I'll probably take you up on that offer later today. Thanks.
I have this issue as well. Saved to a local hard drive, etc.
When I publish, I think (but am not sure) that if the audio hasn't "loaded," it doesn't play in the published version.
Hi Jeffrey,
If your audio is missing in the published version while testing it within the intended environment it's something we'd want to take a look at as Justin previously mentioned. You're welcome to use the link he previously shared, or share it with us here in the forums. I can also send you directions on how to send to me privately if you'd prefer.
