Lock Timeline to Audio Track

Dec 02, 2015

Is there a way to "lock" a slide's timeline? I want to keep timelines relatively in sync with the audio track and as I add new items to a slide the timeline End keeps moving. It's cumbersome to adjust back down too. Ideas?

Hi Jim!

When adding an object to a slide in Articulate Storyline, you may find that the duration of the slide unexpectedly increases. This can happen in the following scenarios:

  • When inserting audio or video, the slide duration will increase to accommodate the length of the media.
  • When copying and pasting an object from one slide to another, the object's original duration will be retained. As a result, the duration of the new slide may increase to accommodate the object's original duration.

If you'd rather not keep the additional time, adjust the duration of the slide by dragging the End line to the appropriate location on the timeline. (See also: Tips for Reducing Slide Duration Via the Timeline)

However, I'm not sure if you are utilizing cue points and an older update as we had a previous issue:

You may find that aligning objects to cue points unexpectedly lengthens the timeline when those objects are set to Show Until End. This issue was fixed in Update 5 for Articulate Storyline. See this article for more information.

This is what I'm doing now. It's an issue. There should be a way to either not use the parameters from the previous location (when using Copy/Paste), or, better, a way to lock the time line to a particular object (and audio track or video) such that new objects added don't force the timeline to change.

Additionally, dragging the timeline to a new location is great if it's just a few seconds but if the timeline moves "off screen" it can be a real pain to manually adjust it back by dragging.

I'll add a feature request but this is a REAL problem for me.
