Master Slides or Imported Slides

Feb 29, 2020

Hello everyone,

Looking for insight and opinions on this post, as I have been running into some trouble and general "clunkiness" (not with the software or speed, just in terms of what makes a project more streamlined).

I created a template with basic backgrounds on master slides, several slides have some triggers to move certain parts around the slide on entrance and exit, and they all set the next button to disabled until the timeline ends.

I then used those master slides to create different basic setups/"Sample slides" that I created in slide view (not master), so adding things like buttons, tab slides, dial slides, etc, to get the good chunk of common slides i'll be using, and once done saved the project as a .storytemplate file.

What are everybody's thoughts for how best to be as efficient and streamlined?  I am finding that when I go to import, I often get a duplicated set of master slides inserted into the project, so ultimately once the 20+ slide project is done, I somehow end up with 5 masters, all of which are the same and have all of the same layouts.  Where I am concerned is that if I move everything out of the master slide and basically have blank masters (aside from maybe a trigger to disable the next button and a copyright line), then I will have more "unlocked" objects and triggers, specifically those animation triggers, on the slide to be edited, and with the shapes and part layout at least, a greater chance of losing consistency if they move and I don't catch it, and then also having triggers that could get broken easier.  Let me know thoughts or any other information that would be helpful for me to provide.  Thanks!!  (I just posted this, and maybe it was because it was in a different discussion board, but it was reported, any insight into why that was would be helpful too!)

Hi Brendan!

Great question! What you'll find with Slide Masters is that when you add a new template to the course, it is added to the Slide Masters. It is a way to keep the templates that you've used or are using in one place. With that, I can understand how it could become crowded.

I'm interested to hear how other community members differentiate and organize their Slide Masters!
