Have the user move the object. This doesn't work for every case, but could be a way to engage the learner a bit as well as move the object.
Animated GIF's work well. Another option is creating a video. Using PPT to output a WMV or MP4 (newest version) or, as I prefer, using Keynote to output an MOV gives you a nice layered artifact that you can build on top of with other objects and interactions.
