MP3 Audio scrambles off and on when imported into Storyline
Feb 10, 2016
I have an 85,000 KB Storyline file that includes about a 1-2 minute MP3 (bit rate of 24 kbps) in each of the 60 slides. When I play the MP3 audio files outside Storyline they play fine. When I preview the slides some audio files scramble at different points. When I re-preview the slides the scrambling presents itself at different points. There is no constant. I have tried previewing the course after rebooting my computer and the scrambling audio instances are fewer. These results lead me to believe that the actual MP3s are fine but the problem may be in how the files are processed by Storyline. Has anyone ever ran into a similar situation? Do you know if the size of the Storyline file may be affecting how audio gets processed? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, Cecilia -- Thanks so much for reaching out with your question! May I ask if you are testing your published output in the intended environment as described here? And with respects to previewing issues, have you also taken a look the this article, as well?
You are welcome to share your .story file if you'd like us to run some testing, too. :)
Hi Christine -- Thank you for checking on my comment. My comments above were the result of previewing my storyline project before publishing to LMS. Since then I have been able to test my project after publishing and the SAME problem arises. I am sharing the original WAV, the converted MP3 (due to space), the actual Story file, and the external recording while I was testing on LMS. This last files displays problems at 7, 8 and 14 seconds. I look forward to hearing about your findings. Thanks a bunch!
Hi, Cecilia -- I just wanted to touch base to let you know your files have been received and I'll check them out as soon as possible. Your patience is appreciated and I'll let you know what I find shortly! :)
Thank You ! :)

Hi, Cecilia: I thought I'd touch base to let you know that when testing your published output, I was unable to experience any audio issues in SCORM CLOUD as you can see if you click here, or also tempshare.articulate.com if you click here.
As such, I have reached out to my colleagues to see if they experience the same behavior I have when testing your file, so I will keep you posted with more information as soon as I can! Thanks for your continued patience!
Hi there, Cecilia! One of my colleagues tested your file as well, and we also checked all of the audio files you provided individually, and cannot say that we are experiencing any scrambling of audio.
Would you be able to Record a Screencast Video and share it with us here so we can see the behavior you are experiencing on your machine, please?
Hi Christie, yes I think I can record a screencast video and send it to you. Thanks. Cecilia
Hi Christie. I have not been able to reproduce the scrambling sound in any of the slides of my course using explorer and chrome. There are two things that lead me to believe that the problem may be with either the audio driver or codecs in my computer: 1) As I was preparing to record the screencast I went to your site and followed the tutorial on recording a screencast and I heard the scratching sound when playing the video. I played the same tutorial on a different computer and it was perfect. 2) I have received feedback from two testers on my course this afternoon and neither of them had problems with the audio. I will be reaching out to our internal IT team to check the audio in my computer. Thank you very much for your assistance in trying to solve this puzzle. :)
Hi, Cecelia -- Sounds like you may be onto something, and we really appreciate the follow up to let us know that you did not have the same experience on another machine. If you should find that you still need more help, please don't hesitate to let us know! :)
