Multiple Choice questions throughout course

Oct 21, 2020

Hi there. We have a course with multiple scenarios and within each, there are 1-3 multiple choice questions (it's set up like this: Video --> multiple choice question --> information). When attempting to go back to the multiple choice question from the following slide (i.e., selecting "PREV" on the information slide), it shows the question and the selected answer, but will not show the layer again. In addition, when you hit "Submit" again, it pushes the user to the next multiple choice question in the training although it's never truly the "next" slide.

I'm not sure how to revise the navigation to make it truly bring a user back to the previous slide/layer they were on. Any help? Thanks!

It's hard to troubleshoot without seeing the Storyline file, but I'll give it a try.

Because you mentioned layers, it sounds like you're providing feedback with every question. The standard Continue button on the Correct and Incorrect feedback layers includes a trigger to hide the layer before advancing to the next slide. So you could delete those triggers.

The setting for what happens when you revisit a slide is also important. Here's what my testing shows:

  • "Reset to initial state":  The question must be answered again. No responses are selected. The Submit button is available. The feedback layers don't show.
  • "Automatically decide": The question appears already answered. The feedback layer shows (because I deleted the trigger to hide it, as described above). The Prev and Next buttons show. There is no Submit button.
  • "Resume saved state": In this case, the slide appears the same as it does for "Automatically decide."

As for where the slide advances to:  Check the trigger for the Submit button and any other available navigation button. It sounds like it was set up to allow someone to retake all the questions without having to go through the other slides. But, again, one would have to see the file to troubleshoot.
