Multiple Issues

Hi all,
I downloaded the trial version of Storyline yesterday and started working with it today. However I have had multiple issues with it so far.
Backgrounds don't appear in slides even when the "Hide Background Graphics" is left unchecked. The background is just grey and trying to apply a theme, background style or image changes nothing. They sometimes show up when I preview, but not always.
Another issue is that previewing doesn't work correctly. Sometimes it will just never preview, other times it will preview but show nothing but a blank screen with a loading indicator, and other times it will preview but won't reflect any recent changes.
Finally, trying to insert characters results in an error message.
I'm not sure if this is due to having the trial version rather than the full version, if I've somehow downloaded the wrong version for my operating system (I'm using Windows XP still) or if there is something wrong with my computer that's causing these issues, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, the trial version should work the same as the full. It sounds like maybe you have a bad install if it gets an error when inserting material. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling it?
I have and the issues are still persisting.
Boy, those issues are definitely not the norm.
By chance have you tried the trial on another PC, one with a different OS?
I haven't, no. I'm just about to leave work for the weekend, but I'll try that first thing Monday morning and see what happens. Thanks.
Are all your Window's Updates...err..up to date?

Microsoft support for XP has been over for some time. As good as it was, might be time to move on to Windows 7 or 8 (I'd skip Vista).

I installed the trial on a colleagues computer and it worked perfectly fine. We both have Windows XP and both are fully up to date so that can't be the issue. I have also updated the drivers for my video card but that hasn't solved the issue either. It definitely seems to be something to do with my computer but I honestly can't think what it might be.

We brought our tech guy in last night and he's concluded that it's my graphics card that is causing the problems. Rather than upgrade or mess around with my computer to fix the problem, my boss has provided me with a laptop that runs Storyline perfectly fine.
Thanks for all the help, it's good to know there's a group of people like this should I ever need help or support with anything in the future.

Yup, the folks in this place really rock in helping each other. Perhaps the best value, IMVHO opinion, of using Articulate tools. Best community on using e-learning tools.
