My older version of Storyline broke when I updated to Flash version 21

May 31, 2016

Apparently, the newer version of Flash is incompatible with Storyline 1, so I need to uninstall that and reinstall an older version. Can someone tell me what the highest version of Flash is that is compatible with the older Storyline version?

I don't know what version of Flash I had before I updated it. I do know that it was way out of date, which is why I updated.

NOTE: I don't want to update to the newer version of Storyline, because the training I created with it back in 2014 is stable, and I don't want to risk messing anything up. I just need to be able to go back in and copy out content for a version that I have to create in a different authoring system that the client needs me to use. (Long story....)

Thanks for any help you all can provide.

Hi Martha,

I'm not sure if you're referring to the latest update of Storyline 1 or the latest version meaning Storyline 2, Update 9 but if you're having difficulty with the latest Flash (or whichever is the latest you've installed) you'll need to be using the latest update of your Storyline version.  For example, Adobe released Flash Player 16 on December 9, 2014 and, as a result, Articulate Storyline won’t open. Published content wasn't impacted

To address this issue, we added support for Flash Player 16 and later in Update 8 for Storyline. To take advantage of the new features and fixes, install the latest version from the link in your product confirmation email or download it here. Currently we're on Update 10 of Storyline 1 and that link will take you to the downloads page.

Thanks, Ashley. That's very helpful.

This is work that I am doing for a client on their computer. They bought Storyline back in 2013, so it was whatever version was being issued back then. (I can no longer get in to Storyline, so I can't tell you which release it was, though I probably accepted updates when I was last working on the project back in 2014).

I'm assuming that if I download the latest update and install it, it will just update the currently installed version. Is that correct? I don't need to reinstall from scratch, right?

Also, does a version of Flash come embedded in the download, or do I need to find a version of Flash to install? Does Update 10 of Storyline 1 support all versions of Flash above 16, or does compatibility stop at a certain point (like the current version 21)?

Hi Martha,

That would be Storyline 1 - as Storyline 2 came out September 2014.

When you download and install the update, it'll remove the existing version and install the latest update - so you will see the prompt to reactivate but it should keep your serial number and if not, you can always reach out to our Support team.

Flash is not embedded in Storyline, but you'll need it installed on your system per the system requirements here. Also, Storyline's Flash output is supported in the browsers documented at the bottom of that article - some of which may disable Flash by default (like Firefox). Storyline 1 Update 10 is compatible through the latest/current version of Flash as well and when there has been other issues with versions of Flash since as the one mentioned here, our team has worked to rectify it as quickly as possible.
