NaN issue

Jan 27, 2014

I have a lot of problems with some simple arithmetic - I have declared numeric variables and am using numeric data entry fields to capture values. However - the receiving field keeps coming up with NaN. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks

Hi, Rebecca ...

I was using numeric data entry fields.

I may be wrong, but ...

It seems that if you copy a layer or a screen that uses data entry fields, the triggers on the new version assign the input values to different variables than in the original. This means that the arithmetic triggers in the new version no longer use the right fields - and indeed, will probably use fields that are empty and therefore do not contain a number - hence the NaN message.

In the new version, I simply reassigned the input values, making sure that the data entry fields filled the correct variables - the NaN message no longer appeared

Having said that, I had a lot of problems with performing calculations and checking the results against specific results, which seems to have a lot to do with how Storyline handles decimal values - I'll post something about that later - as a reminder to myself for the future, and just in case anyone else falls into the same trap and loses sleep!!!!!

Thanks for getting in touch,

Rgds
