Need help getting a variable to function across slides

May 17, 2016

I have a "Menu" slide that branches to 5 "Content" slides. One of the five content slides is a quiz, and I do not want the button that goes to the quiz to function until the four other content slides have been visited. I also have a sticky note that says "quiz" on the Menu slide, which I also don't want to pop up on the Menu until the four other content slides have been visited. I have initially set it up  to be hidden.

So I created a "Number" variable (ComplaintTypeQuiz). I set up a trigger that when one for the 4 content buttons on the Menu slide are clicked a value of 1.00 is added. Then I made another trigger on the Quiz button that "when clicked jump to the Quiz slide on the condition  that the ComplaintTypeQuiz variable is equal to 4.00. I also made a trigger "to show the state of normal for the sitcky note when the timeline begins on the condition that the ComplaintTypeQuiz variable is equal to 4.00.

I have set this up in other ways too (i.e. on each content slide add 1.00 when the timeline ends, when you click the home icon on each content slide to add 1.00, I've tried a True/False variable, etc), and nothing is working. The Quiz Button never works and the sticky note doesn't come up.

Any thoughts?

Hi Steven!

Glad that Stanton was able to assist you here. I wanted to pop in and share some documentation for you or anyone that may be following along or could run across this thread in the future:

Articulate Storyline lets you apply multiple triggers to the same object. You can also apply triggers to master slides and content slides. Here are the rules regarding the order in which all these triggers get executed when learners view your published course.
