Need help: Text box staying visible under my layers
Jan 03, 2020
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with a Articulate Storyline feature.
I've created a slide that has 4 buttons and a text box with some verbiage. When you click on each of the 4 buttons, I've created layers that display for each button. These layers are working fine in that the text box goes away when the layer is being viewed (because I only want the content of layer to be displayed, not the text box). However, when I add a 5th button and a corresponding layer, for some reason the text box shows along with the layer. Same goes if I add a 6th or 7th ..button. The text box keeps showing for any button/layer after the 4th one. Does Storyline only allow 4 layers/buttons per slide or is there a setting I need to adjust? Ideally I want to create 10 buttons on one slide with their own layers, but without the text box showing when the layers are displayed. I cant seem to get rid of the textbox after the 4th button/layer.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Avtar,
It's a bit difficult to determine exactly what is happening without being able to see your file. However, the first thing I would check is that the Hide Objects on Base Layer option is selected in the layer properties for each layer. This should ensure that your buttons and text box are not visible when your layers are open.
It is just possible that, if you are updating a previous slide, for example, the first four layers were already set up this way and so you need to implement it for the new layers. The default setting is not to hide base layer objects.
If this doesn't solve the problem, are you able to post a copy of your file here as that would be a big help?
Thanks
Hi Ned thank you for your reply.
I've tried those settings that you have mentioned but when I do that, the buttons from the base layer disappear, which I don't want. I would like the user to be able to click the buttons, view the layers, and then click on other buttons once they are done viewing.
I've attached the test file here. You will notice buttons 1-4 work as intended and the text box from the base layer does not display in the layers, which is perfect. However, when clicking on button 5 or button 6 the text box from the base layer stays on the page, which I don't want.
Regards.
Hi Avtar!
It looks like you've made changes on all of the other layers that hide the textbox except for Button 5 Layer and Button 6 Layer. Once I made the same change to those layers, the text box disappeared on both Button 5 Layer and Button 6 Layer.
I recorded a short tutorial to walk you through the changes I made.
Thank you so very much Lauren. That is exactly what it was, and it's working as intended now. I probably wouldn't have even noticed that visibility setting in the base layer, but your tutorial was super helpful. Much appreciated, and thanks a million.
