Need help with revisiting slide and triggers/variables

Sep 16, 2021

I wonder if someone could help me, please. I've tried everything I can think of to resolve an issue but I can't seem to crack it. I've built a course with several modules, and they all follow the same process for the learner, namely:

  1. Base layer on slide 1 has a thumbnail image/hotspot
  2. Learner clicks image/hotspot to jump to separate slide in separate scene, where a video plays automatically, full screen
  3. Object trigger on video slide says "adjust variable 'Video watched' (from default value of FALSE) to TRUE when media  completes
  4. Variable trigger says "Jump to slide 1 when 'Video watched.' variable changes to TRUE
  5. Back on slide 1, variable trigger says "show layer when timeline starts on this slide if variable 'Video watched' = TRUE
  6. New layer then explains a task the learner must do. Having watched the video, they should now be able to complete the task, and so on.

This all works fine. However, I want the learner to be able to watch the video again, if they wish. I've tried various things like hiding this layer, jumping back to the video slide with a button, resetting the 'Video watched' variable when timeline starts on video slide etc. I also tried adjusting slide properties, e.g. "reset to initial state when revisiting", but cannot get this to work.

Can anyone help on the best way to do this?

Hi, Tim, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! ✨

Thank you for reaching out!

While it might be easier if you share your .story file so we can see how you have your project set up, I think I have a good idea based on your description.

I recorded a short (2 minutes) Peek 360 video showing you a suggestion on how to approach this by re-setting the variable when your layer opens.

Let me know if this works or if you'd like me to take a look at your specific slides.

HHi Maria - I can't thank you enough for your help with this. Your solution worked perfectly. I can't believe I didn't think to try what you did.  But then I guess that's all part of the learning curve!

I'm very grateful for the effort you've gone to to help me, and for the speed in which you responded. Thank you so much once again - fantastic!
