No Audio on my Screen Recordings

Feb 22, 2016

I am new to Storyline so I am sure this is a setting issue.  I initially used the 'Record Screen' function as a practice, played it back and heard audio.  I have now recorded a 'real course' and there is no audio.  As I am speaking I see the green audio indicator but I do not hear it when I Preview my course.  What am I doing wrong??

Hi Toni!  Thanks for posting your question.

Are you inserting this new screen recording as step-by-step slides?  This article gives some information about Recording Screencasts, specifically this note:

  • A note about recorded audio: If you decide to insert your screen recording as step-by-step slides, recorded audio won't be used. Step-by-step slides display only the action-related video clips from your screencast. Your audio will still be available in the original screen recording in case you want to insert it as a video on a single slide.

Let me know if that's not relevant, and we'll see what we can do!

Yes, I did select the Step-by-Step option so this explains why I have no audio. Do you have the steps for open or resaving an existing step-by-step file as a Video?

Thanks for your reply.

We sure do!  At the bottom of that last article, in Step 6, it links you to this article, which includes the following:

To insert a screencast you previously recorded, go to the Insert tab, click the Record Screen drop-down, and choose an existing screencast.  You can do that in a new slide.

Also, to note, when replying by email, your post will include your contact information.  You are welcome to edit your post if you'd like to remove it!

Hope those articles help!
