No Audio when story is published

Dec 17, 2012

Hi

I'm working with someone on a simple presentation and they have recorded audio for it.  It plays in the preview however it won't play when it's published.

Any suggestions?

Hi Michelle. Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community!

When you're viewing the published content, are you uploading it to a web server or LMS before testing it, or are you viewing it locally? If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the following article for details:
If you're sure that you're testing the content in the correct environment, can you share your .story file here so I can take a look? You can attach the file by using the paperclip icon in your response. If the file is too large, you can try inserting the audio into a blank, new .story file and attach it for testing.
Thanks Michelle!

I ran into a similar problem today which is why I'm posting here. I am working with Storyline 3. Two of my modules were playing the audio fine in preview but no audio was heard when published. When I attempted to publish the modules to my folder, I received a message that the file name or folder name was too long to publish. So, I published them to my desktop without any problem. I then moved them to the folder. When I executed the story.html files from the folder, there was no audio. Running out of possible solutions, I moved them back to the desktop. This time, when I executed the story.html files, the audio worked!

Hi, Irene, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! ✨

I am sorry you are experiencing issues hearing the audio on a published file. Let me ask you a few questions to narrow down the problem:

  • Are you able to hear the audio when you preview the file within Storyline?
  • When you publish your file, which option do you choose (Review 360, Web, LMS, etc.)?
  • Are you viewing your published content locally (on your hard drive)?

If you feel comfortable sharing your .story file publicly in this post or privately with our support team, we will be glad to take a more in-depth look for you.
