Number of attempts changes

Jun 22, 2018

Hi,

I am building on online assessment where learners get an alternate question if they attempt (and fail) a question twice. They get a further two attempts at the alternate question and if they fail that then they are returned to the question dashboard. Learners can check their results page at any point by using the burger menu button the top right.

Here is my problem: it all seems to work fine until the learner goes to the menu button, views their progress in the results slide and then returns to the section (any section although I've only given you one in this sample storyline). When the learner then attempts a question and gets it wrong it jumps them straight to the alternate question without giving them the standard two attempts. It does this for the alternate question too. So from this point onwards (for every question) the learner only has one attempt per question.

Can anyone help? I've attached a sample so you can see what I mean. There is only one section (section two) and the results page. I've tried this on Scorm Cloud too and I get the same issue so I don't think it's a Scorm problem. I think it's something in Storyline. It has Javascript in it to reset the variables when the learner resets a section so it needs to be published if you want to see it working fully.

We're going live with this soon, so if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate any help you can give me!

Thanks,

Vicki.

Hi there, Vicki. Thanks for attaching a sample and walking us through what you're looking to do – really helps paint the picture! 🖼

I see you also opened a support case where my teammate, Ronaziel, recently reached out with her findings. Looks like changing the Quiz slide property to Reset to Initial State fixed the one attempt issue your learners were experiencing. Here's a quick video walkthrough for those who may be following this discussion!

Woo-hoo! Have a great launch, and we're here if you need anything else!
