Objects on my timeline disappear even though I have NEXT buttons and no exit animations

I have tried deleting and then adding the character back thinking something was 'stuck' from copy and paste but it is still happening.  Do I have to lengthen my timeline?  In Captivate, I was able to pause the timeline in the entire project until NEXT is clicked as a project setting but I cannot find such a thing in Articulate.
