Online Menus Different from Storyline File Menus

Apr 08, 2013

The player menus of all our Storyline projects are carefully formatted and we check them when published to see that they are correct. But when we access them online via Chrome, a lot of the formatting disappears and the effect is ragged. In particular, the indents aren't respected and horizontal lines appear between menu items where we have specified none. Can anybody help?

Hi Ted,

Can you tell us a little bit more about the course, please?

How was the course published? Web, HTML5, LMS?

Has the course been uploaded to a web server or LMS?

Have you tried viewing the course in any other browsers? Does the same thing happen?

Also, are you able to share the .STORY file here, so we can check it out?

Thanks!

Christine

Hi Christine,

Your uploader keeps giving me a 404 file not found message ... which is bizarre. I checked the file. It opens properly and it is right where I point your uploader too. Perhaps it is too big at 35 MB.

The project was published in HTML5 because it uses javascript programmed web objects. It resides on a server. We don;t use IE or Firefox because we have found Storyline is unstable on these platforms. The problem occurs in both Chrome and Safari (I use a PC).

Thanks,

Ted

Hi Ted!

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry about the error, that does happen sometimes if the file's too large or if you try to post the output instead of the single .STORY file. You could also try zipping the .STORY file and see if that cuts down on the size.

Alternatively, you can submit the file using our support case system, as it can handle larger files:

Articulate Support - Submit a Support Case

It sounds like it may be something to do with the HTML5 output. Have you tried testing it in Flash, just to see if the same thing happens?

The first thing that comes to mind is player modifications (size, etc.). If you have any options selected in your course to modify the player size, it may be causing a problem with HTML5, as HTML5 doesn't support this.

You may want to take a look at our comparison chart, just to be sure that the features you're using are supported in HTML5:

Articulate Support > Comparing Storyline's Flash, HTML5, and Articulate Mobile Player output

Let me know how it goes, Ted.

Thanks!

Christine
