opening a storyline project that was zipped and sent to me

Jun 19, 2020

My co-worker sent me a zipped file of a Storyline 360 project she would like me to update but I can't seem to get Storyline to open it.  I don't see any .story files and have also tried renaming the .zip file to .story per another discussion. Can someone possibly give some suggestions?

This is not something that will change. Sometimes a .story file has its extension changed to .zip. In that case, you can change it to .story and SL will open it. But if it contains a file named story.html and a folder named story_content, it is the published content, and SL cannot open it.

Hi Walt,

I am facing the same issue. I understand zip file can't be converted to .story file. What one can do if just have the zip? do have to create again from scratch or there is a mid way which could help me.

Also, going forward, what should as an team admin I should suggest to 20 users in my company? should I tell them to use team slides so that source files still remains or there is catch there also  in case someone leaves the company and the license is issued to someone else.

Without  the .story file, you must recreate from scratch, although the  published file can be a pretty helpful storyboard.

I'm not sure about teams; when it was new, I didn't find it the best option. What you need is probably a protocol to save locally and backup  regularly to a shared access location.

Staff would have to tell you about licensing problems.

Thanks for helping, Walt!

Surrender, Team Slides is our recommendation. Team members can upload and download slides, scenes, and entire projects right within Storyline 360. They can also share project templates, slides that need to be in every course, and reusable slide content, such as interactions and quiz questions. Here is more information about team slides.

I want to note that slides can only be shared with your team, not across multiple teams.

As for permission, all team members can do some tasks, such as sharing slides and creating folders, while only the original content owner can do others. And admins who have been assigned to a user seat can manage projects for the whole team.

Please let me know if you have additional questions!
