Opening a Storyline template to make changes
Mar 17, 2015
Hi,
When one opens a Storyline template, it doesn't just open, one must import all the slides into a project, so the saving default is a project file. One must choose template to resave as template if one just wants to make changes.
My question is this: Is there a benefit to saving a template file as a template that I don't understand beyond protecting it from being mistakenly used to begin a project, thereby losing the template?
My team is wondering if we should just save our templates as project files to begin with so that they'll open normally when we want to change them, and then when we're ready to begin a new presentation, create a new project and import those slides.
Are there other benefits/reasons to saving as a template? This could impact what we decide to do.

Hello Arleen,
When you save as a template file, and save it to you local drive, it will appear in the Template dropdown when you insert a new slide. You can insert it into any project file without opening it, or using the import function.
Thank you, that was very helpful! I had no idea. Things stare us straight in the face, yet we overlook them. Not one of us ever thought to click on templates when inserting a slide to see what happens.
Glad to help Arleen!
