Passing a quiz score to LMS using the course completion trigger

Apr 04, 2018

Good afternoon, all.  I have a course that contains a simple quiz that requires the learner to achieve 80% or higher to continue.  There is then a document attestation that can only be reached by completing the quiz.  Is it possible to only send the quiz results and completion status using the course completion trigger or another method?  As this is a compliance related course, we need both the score and the attestation/completion status.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi, Phil

Thanks for your response.  I'm not sure if I was clear with the original question.  I don't need the course to mark passed based on the score.  I just need the score to pass to the LMS when the final action is completed.  The only way to get to that point would be with a minimum of 80%.   I've created my own variables to restrict access to the final trigger, but we need the scored to show in a report for senior management.

Shouldn't they pass if I set reporting for Passed/Incomplete regardless of the tracking method?

Hi Stephen,

Can you tell me more about why you are using the course completion trigger over tracking based on the quiz result slide? Tracking the quiz results slide is the only way to send quiz score data to the LMS.

I'm not sure how you have the course set up, but I am envisioning that the results slide is the final slide in your content. On the results slide "Success" layer, you could add a link to the document. With that set up, learners will only be able to access the document if they have passed the quiz.

Hi, Alyssa

What I need to do is restrict the course from marking passed until the "I Attest" button has been clicked. When I add the attestation to the results layer, when I close out from there without clicking on the attestation, the course marks complete and we do not have a way of confirming the attestation was completed.

I am still somewhat new to Storyline. Before this I've been a Lectora user and can achieve this functionality using that tool, which may be my only alternative.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for confirming :)

Storyline lets you track a course either by the number of slides viewed or by a single quiz (result slide). Tracking both measurements or multiple quiz scores for the same course isn't supported. However, you may be able to track more than one SCO (shareable content object) in a single course using one of the methods in this article.

Based on your description, you may want to consider tracking by your attestation slide. Check out this idea.
