I am very new to Storyline and I'm editing courses that a third party created. How do I add in the option to pause courses? Right now, you can't stop or pause a course. You must watch it all the way through.
I'm a little confused, what do you mean by pausing the course? Is the course you're working on basically a video that plays through? Does it pause at all for the learner to interact with it?
I can't say for certain what the best solution to your problem is but:
If your course is mainly videos, you can add buttons that trigger a pause video.
If your course is mostly audio you can add the same trigger for audio instead of video
If a learner leaves the course, they get the option of resuming where they left off, so hypothetically if they just exit out of the course and come back it should resume where they left off.
Are you able to share the .story file or a part of the .story file here so we can take a look?
I noticed that on the very first slide the seekbar is activated, and the audio pauses when you click the play/pause button. Perhaps a solution could be to enable the seekbar across the whole course?
Just an FYI Peggy that replying via email includes your signature here and you're welcome to update and edit the post to remove that information as necessary - but it's entirely up to you, we're ok with it being there. :-)

Hi,
I've attached the file. It's a video file but there is no way for the learner to pause it while they are viewing it.
Thanks so much!
Peggy

You can do that from the player menu:

I will try that tomorrow. I'm out of the office today and don't have access
to the software.
Thank you!
Peggy
