Percentage and Attempts Reporting Issues with Cornerstone LMS and Storyline 2
May 18, 2016
We have encountered some reporting issues with Cornerstone and I believe it's because of how our quizzes are built in Storyline 2. I used this tutorial to limit the retries in a quiz to two attempts (I confirmed it's setup exactly like the directions). When I ran Cornerstone's SCORM 2004 progress report I encountered two errors.
First, the quiz was setup to require 80% to pass. The course was told to report the results as pass/fail when the user viewed the results slide. You can see in this screen shot that someone who scored 80% failed the course and another person scored 57% and passed the course (not good!). Also, all of the attempts display as 1.
I thought the issue might have been due to the course not reporting the second attempt to the Cornerstone if a user clicked the retry button and took it again. I went ahead and changed future quizzes so the user had to click on an exit button to report the results, which meant the course didn't automatically report them when the results slide was viewed. This solved the passing percentage problem but not the attempts issue.
It's cumbersome for users to have to click on an exit button and if they don't the course doesn't show as complete. Can someone please help me fix the reporting issues without having to have users click on an exit button to report the results?
Sincerely,
Garrett

Hi Garrett!
Are you able to replicate this behavior in SCORM Cloud or is this limited to your LMS?
Hi Leslie,
I wasn't able to test it in the SCORM cloud prior to adding the exit button. I just tested it with the exit button in the SCORM cloud and it didn't accurately report the number of attempts. I failed the quiz the first time and then clicked the retry button. I successfully passed the quiz the second time but the SCORM cloud only showed one attempt.
Hi Garrett! If you are utilizing the retry option on your results slide, that's still one attempt. Is that what you are having difficulty with? It is up to the LMS in how it reports/allows subsequent attempts.
Thanks Leslie. Is there a way to set it up so that the LMS records multiple attempts when users hit the retry button? I read somewhere that LMS's can track attempts based on an "attempts" variable, which is how this course is setup. That would hopefully solve one of my issues. I still need to figure out why the reporting displays failing scores as a passing grade.
Hi Garrett!
Are you able to share your .story file?
Hi Leslie,
I would prefer to open up a case with articulate if someone needs to take a look at the file. Let me know if that works and thank you for your help!
Hi Garrett!
You are certainly welcome to share your file privately with our support team. The link is here.
Thanks Leslie!
I'll post an update after your tech team has a chance to look at the file. Thank you for all your help!
Perfect, thank you!
Any update on Garrett's question of a Cornerstone LMS tracking attempts?
Hi Mina,
Thank you for the follow through. We still haven't figured out why cornerstone won't track the course attempts but it hasn't been a high priority for us. We did two things to correct the inaccurate percentages that cornerstone displayed for the users.
1) Storyline defaults to report the users score when the last slide is viewed. I made it so the course has an exit button and doesn't submit the results unless the user clicked the button.
2) We stopped using cornerstone's default reports because we discovered they contained errors.
Between these two changes I don't think we have encountered any problems.
Hey there, Garrett! Really appreciate you popping back in with that update...it's so helpful for folks browsing this discussion.
Just an FYI that replying via email includes your signature/contact information. You're welcome to come back into the discussion and edit it out, if you'd like!
Hi Garrett,
Thanks for your quick reply. Much appreciated.
Thank you for letting me know, Crystal. I edited the post.
Hello,
We use coursemill as our LMS to publish articulate storyline 2 courses. So one thing I noticed, even if users complete 100 % of the course, the percentage value does not show up as 100 %. Do you know why this is happening? thanks so much with this and so many other things.
PS: here is a screenshot
Hello Indrani - I'm not familiar with Coursemill. Do you experience the same issue when publishing to SCORM Cloud? If so, we would want to take a look.
Thanks, Leslie. Here is the file, if you want to take a look. No I did not publish it to SCORM cloud yet.
I just uploaded this in Scorm cloud.
Also the 'print results' function does not work in mobile platform. Does it work in yours? thanks again
Published in SCORM cloud. works well. But how do I see the % completion?
Also how can I test it out on a mobile device to see if the 'print' function will work on a mobile .
I have two questions:
Please see the attached screenshot. thanks
Also was not happy about how the interface looks in a mobile device.
I did not like the way the mobile interface looks. Too small image, and this could not be enlarged. Also some buttons/functions as the 'Print' button do not work in mobile devices.
Do you have any tips to make this project-mobile friendly?
Thanks
What can we do in lieu of showing print results so that the following results are displayed? thanks
Hello Indrani -
To report both completion status and success status to an LMS, select either Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed as the reporting option when publishing your Articulate Storyline content. See this article for more information.
Articulate Storyline 2 communicates course completion to a learning management system (LMS) as soon as the learner meets the completion requirement. See this article for more information.
The Print Results feature is not supported in HTML5 or the Articulate Mobile Player, which would be your mobile options, and you can read more about that here.
Thank you :)
Hello,
Is the SCORM cloud a paid service now?
