I added a picture to my storyline file: insert tab > picture. I did some changes - crop + resize. after a while the picture disappeared- I don't see it but the object is still there. If I press with mouse on the picture location I see the object outline. very strange! Would appreciate help!
Working from a network or shared drive is known to cause odd behavior within Storyline and with any files you've inserted into your course. You will want to look at ensuring that the files are local as described here and I'd also look at importing your existing file into a new Storyline project o resolve any of the odd behavior.

I would delete and reinsert it
Hello, the picture is saved on a external drive, not local.
I tried a few time and the problem continues. 😞
