Player timeline not syncing up with video timeline?

Hello,

I have made a video and have two points, time 00:42:00 and 00:64:00 during the video that I want 'more info' buttons to be available. However, the buttons are appearing at time 00:42:00 and 00:64:00 of the PLAYER timeline, not my video timeline. This makes it so my buttons aren't syncing up with the proper time in the video that I want them to appear.

How can I tell storyline to base the timeline off of my video?

I've uploaded this to my student website to illustrate my problem, mhuttn2.people.uic.edu

It features someone who has the same problem you have, except I don't know if he was stopping the video more than once.

I would cut the video in 3 pieces: start to first cue, 1st cue to 2nd, and 2nd to end, and put each one on a slide. if you don't put transitions on the slides, it looks like one video to the user, and the video and slide timeline are identical, allowing you to dispense with the video controls.

So another friend came up with this solution, and what we ended up doing was tethering the media timeline and player timeline together:

    Trigger 1
Pause timeline on This Slide when timeline starts Media (ensures that the player does not start automatically)

    Trigger 2
Resume timeline on This Slide when user clicks Play Button

    Trigger 3
Play media when user clicks play button

So now, when the window is clicked, both the timeline and media timeline start together, and if clicked again, they stop together, keeping the timelines in sync and my buttons appearing at the right points

  • Sounds like a great solution, Molly! Keep us posted on how it works out, and good luck on the rest of your project. :)

Here is my solution, it worked perfectly for me.

Ex: Video name is Video 1

    Step 1: Create a T/F Variable, ex: 1video

    Step 2: Create 3 triggers:

    1- Pauste timeline_This slide_when user click_Video 1

    2- Adjust variable_1video (Operator=Not Assignment)_when user click_Video 1

    3- Resume timeline_This slide_when user click_Video 1. Add a condition: variable 1video equal to Fasle

    Hope this help!

Bao Ha, I am thinking about implementing your solution but running into a problem: What if the user pauses the video using the timeline pause button rather than clicking on the video itself? In that case, the variable wouldn't be adjusted. Then, they could resume by clicking on the video, which would pause the timeline. Did you think of a way to address this issue?

      Thank you,

      Domenick
