Has anyone else had this problem? The player trigger for the storyline slide is set as Jump to Next Slide when User Clicks Next Button yet when I publish, the slide automatically advances and does not allow the user to click Next.
I have tried deleting the trigger and adding it again but this doesn't seem to be making any difference.
Does this also happen in Preview mode? By any chance do the slide properties not say Advance by user? You'd click on the little gear at the bottom right of the window to display the properties and then check the Slide Advances drop-down.
Hello, I am experiencing the same problem Jan had before: the NEXT button does not work properly. I have checked either the player settings (FREE) and the slide properties (set to "Slide Advances by user").
More over when I add a trigger to a slide, the trigger disappears and goes into the base layer triggers... very strange.
This thread is a bit older - so we'd want to know a bit more information about what's occurring within your file and what version/update of Storyline you're using? Also, you mentioned adding a trigger to a slide, the trigger goes into the base layer? Did you mean that you are trying to add a trigger to slide layer? There are certain triggers that can only appear within the base layer, such as those associated with quiz questions.
It may be best to share a copy of your .story file here with us or an example that behaves the same.
here are some more information. Articulate version- UPDATE 4: 1311.1422
When I try to add a trigger in a slide layer, it disappears and goes into base layer.
Then I go into base layer and copy trigger, paste it into appropriate slide layer (it stays this time) and then I go back into base layer to delete it.
During the preview, when I click NEXT nothing happens.
I attach the example. As you can see in slide layer INTRO 1 I had to create my own NEXT button (called AVANTI) to perform the action. My button works.
Thanks for sharing the file here and a bit more information. First off, we're currently on update 8 of Storyline 1, and I'd always recommend being on the newest update just in case to resolve any odd behavior.
I took a look at your file, and using the next button triggers on the layers are a bit trickier, as the button exists for all slides and layers - not just specific layers. What I did instead to help Storyline determine when and where you want the next button to work, was add a trigger to the base layer to show a particular layer based on the value of a variable. That variable is set on the Intro1 layer. Take a look at the attached example, and you could replicate this for your other slide layers if you'd like the next button to move them from layer to layer. Additionally, you could see these up as different slides too - instead of layers.
As a default, yes it'll work with the base layer - but applying conditions to it, allow you to modify that a bit and control what it does, but you'll see that trigger is still on the base layer - and since the base layer in your slide is accessible throughout, I'm glad that'll work.

Thank you Rebecca! That was exactly what it was!

Thank you again Ashley. Your suggestion was very good. I just changed the variable Layer2 to FALSE when intro 2 slide layers time starts.
So it is true that the NEXT button can be used only on base layers ? Am I right ?
thanks.

all clear. It is odd anyway that Articulate allows that trigger on slide layer.
thanks for the precious hints.
have a good 2015.
Ciao.
Have a happy 2015 as well and please let us know if you need anything else!
