Playing random videos on Quiz slides

May 17, 2018

I've developed multiple short correct and incorrect response videos for questions and am wondering how I can get Storyline to play one of those videos randomly after users press submit upon answering the question on a quiz slide - or if Storyline can even do this.

how I can get Storyline to play one of those videos randomly after users press submit

Hi Allen

Without seeing your file setup -you may be able to use the 'random number' variable in a trigger.

e.g. Set triggers :

1. Adjust variable random number between 1 - 3 (for correct answers) when timeline starts on correct layer.

2. Play media 'video 1' when timeline starts on correct layer on condition random variable = 1

3. Play media 'video 2' when timeline starts on correct layer on condition random variable =2

4. Play media 'video 3' when timeline starts on correct layer on condition random variable = 3

You need to do the same for the incorrect layer.

You may be able to set this up on your feedback master layers

Alternatively one of the Javascript gurus can probably chime in and give you a simpler solution :-)

Hi Allen

very crude example  see this Peek video - is this what you are after?  i ended up putting the videos each on their own layer on the quiz slide so a bit different to what I posted above.

My triggers are set to show the video layer straight away but you may want to attach the trigger to continue button of the correct layer if you want them to see that layer first.

Have attached the .story file if it helps
