Please help! Creating a trigger won't work!

Aug 30, 2017

Hi E-learning Heroes,

I've been working on slide 1.25 in the attached project and am having trouble inserting triggers. Something is wrong because all I get is a blank box where the trigger wizard ought to be and then it disappears!

I want the learner to be able to click on an object, in this case, a cloud, to reveal info about that type of cloud. I'd like the info to appear inside the larger cloud on the left and have the text above the instruction to click to become hidden.

There are four types of clouds. So, I want to create four triggers and another one so that the instruction stays hidden.

I have been trying to build this page for a couple of days and no success. Please help. I've got pressure from a stakeholder.

Thank you,

Flora

Hey Flora. Not sure why you're having problems with SL but I would suggest a restart of your OS and SL. That usually clears up issues like this. Also check that your version is current.

I did a few things to the file:

  1. converted the small clouds and text to buttons so the user can click either to show that info
  2. created slide layers for each one
  3. added triggers to each button to show that layer

I'll leave it up to you to put in the necessary information on each slide layer. By allowing the user to click on the base layer this allows the user to click on each button and view the information without having to close each slide layer.

Hope this helps.

My suggestion is to turn off your computer, and restart it. If that doesn't work, you may need to re-install SL.

I had no trouble adding triggers to slide 1.25.  One thing I might point out is that groups don't have states, so the text that is on the cloud must have the state changed for each individual item. If that is your cup of tea, fine, but I need to have a VERY compelling reason for using groups (which means I can't remember the last time I did.) Groups don't play nicely with almost anything you can think of, and the user can't tell the difference. FWIW.
