Preview Not working after changing template and other quick Qs...

May 21, 2014

Hi! I am new to Storyline and I really like it. I have a few issues that seem to pop up that I can not solve even after looking at the tutorials that were otherwise quite helpful.

1-It was great to start with a template and the animations worked fine when I previewed them. Now that I have edited the preview and I want to see how my edited version looks, none of the preview buttons work. Please advise.

2- I am trying to add new slides in between the pre-created template ones. I am having problems getting them to stay in the same scene. They created a new column (scene?). The arrows direct them to incorrect placements. I am not sure how to keep them inline. PPt seemed easier to move slides around. Please advise.

Thanks so much!!

Hi Kim and welcome to Heroes!

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Storyline so far and happy to help with these bumps you've run into.

In regards to the preview, does the "Preview" button itself no longer work - or when you preview it, it's not functioning as expected? You'll want to check that you haven't removed any necessary triggers and that you're previewing the whole course in case there are connections between scenes that could not work if you only preview a slide or scene. If the preview button stopped working - first I'd want to check that you're working on local project files, as working on a network or USB drive could cause unusual behavior.  If the behavior persists and occurs in all your files and you've been working on local project files, it may also be worth conducting the repair of Storyline.

Were you importing slides from another project or adding them as "insert slide"? If you're importing them, the default setting is to import them into a new scene - but then you should be able to drag the individual slides or multiple slides at a time within a scene or into a new scene. You can't drag a scene into another scene. The arrows indicate the triggers that are set up - and the standard set up is just to jump to next slide although you can set it to jump to a particular slide.
