Problems publishing video embedded from web

Feb 04, 2014

I'm new to Storyline and just going through the great tutorials offered by Articulate. I have developed a tutorial practice storyline that incorporates a marker with a web-embedded video and a slide that has a web-embedded video on it.

Everything works fine in preview mode.

But when I publish to Web, the video does not appear when hovering over the marker (it's just blank), and the presentation stops completely and will not advance to the next slide, which happens to be the slide with the embedded video. (They're both Youtube videos).

I'm using Internet Explorer 9 - and have no access to any other browsers as this is the standard at my place of employment.

I'd appreciate any answers to this dilemma. Thanks.

HI Amber,

The community welcomes you as a Storyline user!

Are you publishing locally? If so, that may be why the links aren't working. The recommendation is to publish to where your content will ultimately reside, or to one of the locations provided in this support link - which has more info. Perhaps this will get you started..please shout out with any questions and the community will jump in.

Hi Rebecca. Thanks for the reply. I published my test "tutorials" module to a network drive.

Ultimately, the eLearning modules we create will either be delivered via our LMS, or in the case of material we don't need to track, from our network, so I need to make sure it works. When I publish the same content to "CD" and save to my local hard drive, the links work (though there is a delay of about 15 seconds when it hits the slide with the first video link).

When I publish to Web on a network drive and open story.html in a browser, and go to the first slide with embedded video (the video is embedded in a marker), the marker opens with the title text, but no video. I can hover over all the markers with text, no problem. But no video plays. And when I attempt to advance to the next slide, the presentation just freezes. The next and previous buttons don't work and you can't select a slide from the menu.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

HI Amber,

One other thought: a MIME type is required on a server for FLV and MP4 files. Here are links to the support pages

http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/flv-videos-require-a-mime-type-on-your-server-to-play-properly

http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/mp4-videos-require-a-mime-type-on-your-server-to-play-properly

Since it's working on CD, it would seem to be something specific to where the publishing is occurring, or so my not always logical brain tells me

Hopefully, someone else will jump in if the "Mime" solution doesn't work.

Thanks, Rebecca. I'm going to be out of the office for a week for family reasons and will look into this when I return. I have run into MP4 problem before at my workplace, but that was only for MP4s that actually resided on the server (problem solved when I converted them to wmv). However, since the videos in my tutorial practice module are actually embedded Youtube videos (linked to Youtube), do you think that would be the same issue?
