Project for portrait viewing on tablet and mobile phone

Oct 30, 2018

I'm wanting to create a SL360 project where the learner chooses a desired view at the start of the lesson -  portrait tablet or portrait mobile phone. Each option then has its own scene and SL will jump to the appropriate scene depending on which view is selected.

I currently have the story size set to 540 x 720 which is working for the portrait tablet view but in the portrait mobile phone preview, there are black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Are the black bars caused by the story size, the player, or something else? Player style is set to modern and Menus & Controls is set to off.

What needs to be done for the project to be viewed full screen in both portrait tablet and mobile phone views?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Kim!

You'll see black bars when the aspect ratio of the slide size doesn't match the ratio of the screen you're using to view the course.

Since you're seeing black bars are the top and bottom, that means the slide needs to be a bit taller to fully fit the mobile phone screen. The modern player will respond to fit any screen size as much as possible, without stretching or skewing the slide itself.

I'll leave it to the community to make recommendations on the best slide size for viewing on multiple devices!

Hi Kim and Alyssa! I think that it's a great idea to let the learner choose the scene depending on what device he/she is using. I have a question for Alyssa: Is it possible to set different slide sizes on different scenes? This would solve the Kim's problem. I'm planning to build my first mobile-optimized course with portrait display and this would be an useful feature in it. Thank you in advance!
