Project freezing up in preview

I have a 14 slide software simulation. When I want to preview a slide, the player opens but the real estate is blank. The spinning circle appears and it continues until I choose to end the preview.
When I try to preview the entire scene, I see the first scene and it automatically goes to the correct layer, then freezes. Can't close the layer or move forward. The only motion is the spinning circle.
Also my menu on the player only displays the first two slides???
I built this on the network drive but is now on my hard drive. Using Storyline 2, update 6, 1507.2315. Running Windows 7. DPI is 100%. I've turned off hardware acceleration in Flash and IE. ?????
Don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

Solved! The slides that are hanging up are the ones before a slide with text entry field. The name of the variable for the field had periods which I am guessing is violating the naming convention. removed the period and the freezing/hangup went away. And fixed the menu by going into the player and resetting the menu from the slides. Poof! menu appears.
