Prompt to resume option
Oct 09, 2018
I have a quick question regarding the resume option in Storyline 3. When the user chooses to resume, it looks like Storyline will resume at the beginning of the slide the user was last on. Is this correct? I have a slide that has 16 minute video, and if the user quits the training in the middle of the video and then comes back and select to "resume" the video starts from the beginning and not where the user left off.

That sounds about right. I don't think we have any control over the timeline either to solve this issue. One solution might be to embed the video as a Vimeo web object, then you should in theory be able to continue the video at least near where the user left off.
Michael, to confirm the resume functionality is based on the slide and not on the embedded video per say? For example I have a project of multiple slides which of those three only have videos (of great length) followed by quizzed, if the user stops on the 2nd or 3rd video it would resume there and not the first video?
That's right, Jason.
If you've selected Prompt to Resume or Always Resume as your resume behavior, the learner will resume to the last slide they visited before exiting the course, and the video on that slide will restart from the beginning.
If you'd rather the video restart in the middle where the learner left off, check out this creative workaround from Mauro.
Thank you Alyssa, great information especially with a couple of current content I have and creating.
I looked at the posting referencing Mauro's solution to resuming in the midst of video if returning, similar to that a few years go by Mike Enders. I can get everything to work (Transferring from Slide 1 -> Slide 2 -> Save or Exit -> Save -> Slide 1 then I run into the problems. The video does not resume where it had left off at, but starts over.
Still fairly new and have learned a lot about Articulate, but so much to take in so please bare with me. All the slide configurations updated as noted in postings to "Resume Behaviour". On slide 1 I just have the Save Trigger to Slide 2 and then I have a Trigger for Completion once the video is over b/c we've had issues with completion status feeding over to LMS. Just wondering what other Triggers/Variables would help in fixing the video issue.
Hi Jason,
I'd like to get a better idea of how you set this up. Would you mind sharing a few sample slides with me? If you'd rather keep your slides private, you can share them here.
Thank you Alyssa, uploaded file this morning. Please let me know if you have any question or need any additional information.
Thanks, Jason! We've got your file, and our engineer, Abel, is already taking a look. Keep an eye on your email -- you'll hear back from him shortly!
Hey Everyone! I have some updates for you:
We just released the newest version of Storyline 3 (Build 3.7.20003.0) this morning! This fixed the issue where videos would start over when revisiting slides even if they were set to resume saved states.
The next step is to update Storyline 3 by downloading the latest update here.
