When I tab through any question slide it isn't finding the question placeholder. Accessibility is on and tab order shows it. However, when I actually tab through after publishing or in preview it won't pick it up. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? or is the a "feature" we need to wait for Articulate to create? This is occurring in Storyline 360.
Since keyboard-only users can see text and images, these objects get skipped when tabbing through the slide content.
If you need to test your course to ensure a person using a screen reader can tab to and hear that item being read, you'll need to use something like NVDA or JAWS.
Yes I am using the NVDA screen reader. It is not only missing the questions, but is also not picking up any of the text boxes. This wasn't an issue until recently. Is this a glitch with the new update?
Oh no! I just submitted a request to my IT department today for NVDA so I could start doing this kind of testing. I heard that you may have to test with NVDA on a published course. So if you are testing in preview, or from Review, it may not work. Try publishing to web locally and test the published course.
Tabbing through a course used to catch the text boxes... now it doesn't for some reason. They recently rolled out some new accessibility features for the player. Hopefully that didn't break the basic tabbing function! I'll submit it as an issue.
Hi Gabrielle - I just looked back at the webinar on accessibility I watched the other day and the host said when using NVDA you should do your testing on a published course. Have you tried publishing your course locally, and tested that with NVDA?
Yes I used the published course version to test. Although, according to 508 guidelines it should be accessible either way. I also used the available windows narrator to test with the same result.
Problem is .... automatically reading isn't considered accessible in our experience. Also if it is automatic and not part of the tabbing, how is it replayed?
Great questions! A screen reader will start reading automatically which is expected behavior. You can replay a slide by using the "refresh" button on the seek bar. This is also included when tabbing through the slide.
