Questions/Observations as a first time Storyline User

Oct 18, 2012

Hi All,

I have just started creating my first demo with Storyline.  I am excited about learning more about the robust features.  Here are a few things I have questions/observations about...

- Can audio go across two slides?

- Are we able to zoom within a recorded video instead of just on the slide itself?

- When I move my marker on the timeline all objects are visible.  I know I can click the eye to shut them off, but is there a way to only show what objects are on a slide at a given time?

- When inserting a full screen video, the navigation controls are not visible.  I can resize the video to make them on the screen.  Is there another way to do this?

I appreciate any answers you guys have.  As I said, I am new to this so I am sure I will have many more questions.

Thanks!

Cyndi

Hi Cyndi, welcome to the community.

You can put multiple audio clips on a slide (which is great) but you can't make a single clip go across two slides.   If you have an audio clip that you want to play acorss sildes, you will have to chop it up into different files.

It would be nice if you could pan and zoom like you can in Camtasia, but it is not possible in Storyline - You can;however,  add the zoom effect to the slide that the video is on - you just have to manually fiddle with the timing on the time line to get the zoom in and out to coinside with your video.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a way to only show the objects that are on the slide at a given time - the only thing you can do is close the eye for the objects that you don't want to see.

I think that resizing the video is the only thing that you can do here if you want to use the controller. One thing you could do is turn the controller off and create your own custom controls to pause and play the video - you could make these controls slightly transparent and sit them right on top of the video.

Showing objects under the playhead is a nice feature. This is what I'm used to in Flash. The only way to show what's under the playhead in the authoring environment is to use the play button on the lower left corner of the timeline.

You may want to consider submitting a feature request for showing only the objects under the playhead. Add a vote I did.
