Quiz answers moving in Preview

Mar 18, 2013

I have a multiple-choice quiz question. I've arranged the answer text boxes on the slide so I can add photos. They line up fine when I'm editing the slide. However, when I preview it, the answer text boxes are in different positions every time. Here's an example:

How can I get the text boxes to stay in place when previewed/published? Is it because I have Shuffle Answers turned on? Thanks for your help!

Hi Beverly,

The "Shuffle" option will only affect the order in which the answers are displayed, it shouldn't adjust where they're shown.

If the answers are showing up properly on the slide, but not when previewing or publishing, it may have something to do with the way it's being rendered on the system. Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

*  Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI:

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

I ran into this in a very bad way on many questions which were imported from Quizmaker.  I solved the problem with some difficulty like this:

Edit the quiz question in design mode, click the choice text, then click away to de-select it.  I found that this process somehow created the proper padding / spacing / text sizing.  You should see a visual alignment come into place that wasn't there on the problem slides.  Once done, the questions seemed stable.

I haven't tried this but, you might try editing the quiz question in design mode with VIEW ZOOM set to 100%.  It has been mentioned in other threads that at 100% text re-sizing issues seem to vanish.

Do you have choice shuffle enabled as Christine pointed out?  If this is true, then of course your choices would be rearranged.  I assumed shuffling was disabled and you were having alignment issues.

Thanks for your help, Christine and Sam. I was to a point where I could publish the course, and the answer text boxes lined up just fine. I wonder why they move around in Preview but not when published? Since it fixed itself, I didn't check the DPI. I'll do that if it happens again.

Problems often have a lot to do with the browser make and version.  Try to test with all browser versions that the audience will use.

I'm not sure what engine(s) Storyline uses for Preview.

Sounds good, Beverly Thanks for the update!
